HOUSE I

HOUSE I

This house is located in a residential area in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. The area is called “Isshu teiso jukyo chiiki” literary translated to “category 1 low rise-rise exclusive residential districts” that have mostly 2-story or 3-story houses.
The owner of this house is a couple with two children.

The owner requested us not to plan the site full of buildings, and inner spaces of the house aren’t perfectly exposed and also closed to the surrounding area.
We put two volumes paralelly at an angle with the site’s major direction, and hang the top light just between them to create inner space that have a nature of exposure and closure.
The top light is covered with wooden louvers that also serves as the role of a deck terrace.
Children like to play there very much.
We place trees in six external triangular spaces born in the gap of neighboring land, as to maintaining the openness of the internal space, and planted greens in every corner of the site may reduce the feeling of pressure on the surrounding area.
